3D Starstrike was written Ian Oliver, Andrew Onions and Graeme Baird. They formed Realtime Games Software on May 8th 1984 whilst they were still in Leeds University. Their first game was 3D Tank Duel, and whilst there had already been several version of Battle Zone on the Spectrum Realtimes version was faster and more polished.
After 3D Starstrike, Realtime released the follow up imaginatively named Starstrike II. This featured fast 3D solid shaded graphics previously not seen on the Spectrum. Using the same technology they released Starfox on the Spectrum and Amstrad. Realtime are probably most remembered game is Carrier Command, and was available on pretty much all the new 16 bit machines as well as some 8 bit machines of the time.
Because of Realtimes expertise in all things 3D, they were also the number one choice for conversions of the top selling 3D games of the time, for example Starglider to the Sinclair Spectrum (No easy feat), and Elite to PC DOS.
Eventually the team broke up and everyone went there separate ways. Graeme Baird went to work for Psygnosis, and Ian Oliver founded Cross Products who developed systems.
